Leadership at All Levels
In today’s changing times, where we have to do more and more with less and less, all team members must be leaders at some level or another. Front line staff of any public works department is the key to fulfilling the vital role that our departments play in building thriving and sustainable communities. In this track, these key team members will be given both the meaningful information and tangible tools that they need to be their best.
Session 1- Ignite the Fire
The “why we do” is the key to the “how we do” and the “results we get”. In this session Ian Hill will lay the ground work for the program, putting participant’s hearts and minds in the right place for growth. Attendees will review the program and its various tools, define roles and responsibilities and establish their personal desired outcomes. Participates will also review the program’s unique accountability mechanism which will support them in reaching their full potential. Attendees will leave with everything needed to get the maximum impact from the program and the inspiration to “ignite” the process of reaching their best.
Session 2- Agent of Change
Before an individual can reach their full potential, they have to see the talent and ability within them and just as importantly, they have to see the importance and critical nature of their work. In this powerful session, Ian will help frontline staff see the power and potential that they prossess and the noble, honorable and meaningful work that they do every day.
Session 3- Big Picture Thinking
If we are to perform to our best we must see the big picture and how we fit into it, and more importantly how we, in our daily efforts, can have a positive impact on that “big picture”. In this session Ian will help us to boil that big picture down to what we do every day and how we can contribute to a greater degree just by understanding our leadership and communication styles and how they impact ourselves and other. He will also help us to be great in a team dynamic by building strong trusting relationships with all those we work with each day.
Session 4- Continuous Improvement
If you always do what you’ve always done you’ll always get what you always got…so if we want to be better tomorrow than we were yesterday then something has got to change. In this thought provoking session, Ian will challenge participants to not only establish a commitment to continuously improve themselves both professionally and personally, and also show how they can play a vital role in ensuring that their departments continuously improve as well.
Session 5-Catalysts for Responsibility
We are individually responsible and collectively accountable as public works employees to all the stakeholders of our community to provide the essential services and infrastructure necessary to build thriving, sustainable communities. For all that to happen, an individual must be willing to take personal responsibility for their work. In this final session of the series, Ian will help us with strategies for taking individual responsibility and teach us how to be a catalyst for others to take responsibility as well.
